Ha Long Bay Incentive Trip: A 3-Day Itinerary for Companies
Ha Long Bay, with its limestone islands rising from emerald water, is one of the most rewarding places in Vietnam to take a team. It is close enough to Hanoi for a short trip, and an overnight cruise turns the group into one shared experience. Here is a three-day itinerary we use as a starting point for incentive groups.
Day 1: Arrive in Hanoi
Guests arrive and check in. In the late afternoon, the group rides a cyclo convoy around Hoan Kiem Lake and the Old Quarter, followed by a private water puppet show. The day ends with a welcome dinner where leaders set the tone for the trip.
Day 2: Hanoi to Ha Long Bay
After breakfast, coaches take the group to Ha Long, usually about two and a half to three hours on the expressway. The group boards an overnight cruise, with lunch on deck as the boat sails into the bay.
The afternoon includes kayaking or a bamboo boat ride through quiet lagoons, a visit to a cave, and sunset on the top deck. In the evening, a private dinner on board can include a short award moment for top performers.
Day 3: The bay and back to Hanoi
Early risers can join a tai chi session on deck. After brunch, the cruise returns to the harbor. On the way back, the group can stop at a resort or beach venue for a half-day team building program before returning to Hanoi in the evening.
Planning tips
- Choose the right cruise: for large groups, ask about chartering a whole boat for privacy and a flexible program
- Mind the weather: cruises can be suspended in storms; build in a backup plan
- Seasickness is rare in the sheltered bay, but bring remedies for sensitive guests
- Branding: welcome banners, name cards and gifts in cabins make it feel like your trip
- Time on land: keep the coach journey comfortable with a rest stop and snacks
Make it your own
Some companies add a fourth day in Hanoi with a gala dinner, others replace the cruise with a resort stay and beach activities. We adjust the program to your budget, group size and goals.
